The Nipawin Hawks’ historic season has come to an end.

After winning the 2018 Canalta Cup, the Hawks’ first SJHL championship in the past 28 years, they fell in six games in the ANAVET Cup series against the Steinbach Pistons.

The Pistons won Monday’s game 2-1 in Steinbach to close out the series. They will advance to the RBC Cup national championships, starting on Saturday in Chilliwack, B.C.

Brady Tatro scored with just three minutes into the game to give the home team Pistons an early 1-0 advantage.

The Hawks got the equalizer in the second period from Wayde Johannesson.

Bradley Schoonbaert scored his third of the series to put the Pistons ahead in the third period.

Now the ANAVET Cup series has wrapped up, the RBC Cup field is set. The Wenatchee Wild will be the Pacific representatives, after defeating the Spruce Grove Saints in the Doyle Cup. Also gunning for the national title are the Wellington Dukes, the Ottawa Jr. Senators and the hosting Chilliwack Chiefs.
