We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Morley Glen Coopersmith on January 12, 2026. Morley was a loving husband, wonderful dad, grandpa, and great grandpa.
Morley was born in Star City to Henry and Isabel on July 28 ,1934.
He lived on the farm north of town for most of his life. His love of farming and being on the land started at an early age, planting and selling potatoes. His early years were spent riding his horse, Buster, and doing all things that young boys do on the farm. He curled a lot in high school even going to provincials one year.
Morley and Gayle (Lyons) met at the curling and skating rinks. Morley was curling and Gayle was ice-skating. His caring, thoughtful, kind way he treated people were qualities that Gayle fell in love with. They married on May 7, 1955. They welcomed seven children in the following years. Many of their early married years were spent doing family activities and raising the kids. They enjoyed snowmobiling, and we all have fond memories of being packed in the cutter! They celebrated 70 years of marriage last May.
He began farming right out of school with his dad and continued for the next 52 years. He took pride in working the land and harvesting his crops. After retiring from farming, he began working at the Case International dealership, Moker and Thompson as an Ag Salesperson. He always liked to wheel and deal and could talk about his farming equipment for hours. In 2021, Morley & Gayle moved from the farm to Melfort.
Morley was actively involved in minor sports and the Night Riders snowmobile club for many years. He and Gayle looked after the caretaking of the skating rink for three years. Morley was very active in raising money for the new skating rink in Star City and was manager of many hockey teams over the years.
Morley and Gayle spent several years camping at various lakes around the northeast. In 1981, they purchased a cabin at Candle Lake. Over the years they enjoyed hosting family and visiting over coffee with their long-time lake neighbours. Morley spent hours driving the boat and pulling everyone on tubes and skis. He was a devoted Dad, who always welcomed the many friends that came along with each of us. We often wonder with seven kids, why he would allow us to bring friends with us to the lake. But he never said no, and treated all kids around in his gentle, fun-loving way.
We all have fond memories of Morley, driving his beloved Kubota tractor around the yard or driving his golf cart like a maniac. He did love speed.
Morley spent hours puttering in his garage, making wooden frames and numerous other projects. He was often found whistling while he worked in the shop.
He was never one to tell a lie, as his BS skills were lacking and were shown all over his face. His mischievous grin, giggle, and the arm gesture that we all recognized and knew that he was done talking about something will be truly missed.
Morley leaves to mourn his wife Gayle, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Daughter Dawn & John Scruten, granddaughters Erin and Shannon and great grandchildren Daxter and Ryker. Daughter Laurie Coopersmith & Jay Lapidus.
