Hawks head to Flin Flon seeking fourth straight win
The Hawks are riding a three game winning streak into Flin Flon Tuesday, where the Bombers haven’t lost all season.
Nipawin won all three games the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) club played last week on home ice to stay knotted with the Yorkton Terriers at third overall in the SJHL standings. Head Coach Tad Kozun said after a southern road swing didn’t go well on Feb. 14 and 15, but his club rebounded at the Centennial Arena.
“We did what we needed to do,” he said Tuesday morning. “We’ve had some good success at the ‘Cage’ this year, but now we have to hit the road again here for a few. Obviously massive games this week.”
The Bombers have won all 22 games at the Whitney Forum this year including a pair of games over the Hawks. On Nov. 1 the Bombers won 5-1, the score was 5-2 Flin Flon on Dec. 6. The Hawks do have two home ice wins over Flin Flon this year but have not won in northern Manitoba since Feb. 15, 2022. Kozun said he has faith in his group that they can get a win in the historic old rink.
