Masters provincial curling underway in Tisdale

Feb 28, 2026 | 1:30 AM

The best senior curlers in Saskatchewan are in Tisdale this weekend.

The Tisdale Curling Club is hosting this year’s men’s and women’s Masters Provincial Championships.

“It’s always exciting to bring in new folks from different clubs and kind of showcase our facility. There are some really good curlers in this field this weekend, so I’m really excited to watch the games. I know there’s an old teammate of Sandra Schmirler, so lots of big names,” explained ice maker Marc Anderson.

“We’re all pretty excited that this event is here. We had it here a couple of years ago, and it was a big success, so we’re excited to do it again. As far as the curlers are concerned, as well, I think they’re all excited to have it here because our rink is always really good for them, so it should be a good event.”

A total of 16 teams will be competing at the event, which began Thursday afternoon, with 11 of those 16 on the men’s side.

One of the men’s teams is a local squad, as Tisdale’s own Furber will likely be the crowd favourite. Other notable teams include Phelps and Swiderski of Prince Albert, and Scheible of North Battleford.

The semi-finals and finals of the tournament are set for Sunday morning and early afternoon. The winners will get to represent Saskatchewan at the National Championships in Alberta in April.

There is no admission to attend the tournament in Tisdale, as the Club is hoping as many people as possible will come and support.
