Another Massive Test Coming

Mustangs finally beat Bombers, win 10th in a row

Feb 28, 2026 | 12:50 PM

The Melfort Mustangs accomplished something on Friday that they hadn’t yet been able to do all season.

Melfort hosted the league-best Flin Flon Bombers and defeated them, doing so by a 4-3 score.

“Obviously, a big win, a huge one for the team, and one that we’ve had marked on our calendars since we last saw them, because we really wanted to be able to get it done. I think that’s a really good win that kind of proves to ourselves that we can take on the highest team and be able to take them down,” said netminder Madden Mulawka.

“The biggest thing about our group is that we never give up, so we knew we could get back in this position and beat a team like Flin Flon. We’ve never given up on the year or even a single game, so we just have to keep pushing because that belief is at an all-time high.”

That belief, rightfully so, should be there, as the Mustangs have now won 10 games in a row.

After maybe a season-best performance from Mulawka (39 saves), and now having to head into Flin Flon (where the Bombers are 23-0 this season), it ain’t gonna get any easier on Saturday.

“I’ve definitely had my ups and downs this season, but I would say that was probably one of my best games this year. I think it definitely bumped up my confidence lots, and I felt really good in there,” Mulawka added.

“We’re gonna have to be even better on Saturday, obviously, it’s a tough barn to play in, but I think if we bring our game, play our game, and not deviate from that, then I believe we’ll be successful.”

The Stangs, going for their 11th consecutive victory, as well as just their second win over their Northern Manitoba rivals (in the eighth and final meeting of the season), will start their quest with a 7:30 p.m. puck drop.
