Raising money for restoration

The Historic Post Office Advisory Group (HPOAG) has brought in more money to help in their efforts to restore and beautify the century-old building.

The organization hosted a concert last weekend and raised $1,600.

Doug Holoien and the Hometown Band provided the entertainment for the evening, and HPOAG thanked them and the volunteers who helped during the event.

“People enjoyed dancing and singing along,” said HPOAG director Elaine Tremblay. “[It was] a great evening enjoyed by all.”

The next HPOAG fundraiser will be a Ladies Night at the Historic Post Office April 25.

There are only 150 tickets available, and they’re $20 each.

The goal of the organization is to repair and restore the iconic downtown landmark. The group outlined their goal in November, which included a ten-year plan to work on all three levels of the building.

Their goal is to start with work on the first floor, including the replacement of the main doors and the flooring.  That work is expected to take upwards of five years, with the goal of working on the top two floors in the following five years.

Tremblay said the building is too important to the community to lose.

“The Historic Post Office is an iconic landmark and needs to remain as such,” Tremblay said.
