U of S Huskies win Canada West

Former Mustangs heading to University Cup Championship

A couple of Melfort Mustangs alumni are Canada West champions.

Forwards Zac Somers, Ben Tkachuk, and the rest of the University of Saskatchewan Men’s Hockey Team have advanced to the University Cup Championship. 

The Huskies swept the Mount Royal Cougars 5-0 and 4-2 in the best-of-three series over the weekend. They went 6-0 in the playoffs. 

The U of S will travel to Halifax, N.S. for the University Cup Championship, beginning March 19. 

Somers had a goal and three assists in four games during the regular season in his first season with the Huskies.

Tkachuk, in his third year at the U of S, had a goal and five assists in 32 regular season games for the Huskies.
