Murray George Thompson

Murray Thompson – lover of his farm, mechanical things, A&W teen burgers, black licorice, and long baths with a good book; hater of fish, mushrooms, shorts, and bright colored clothing – sadly left us on March 7, 2026. He was husband to Lana; father to Kira (Ron), Erin (Tyler), Christine (Peter), and Angela; grandfather to Kaelen, Aiden, Dylan, Talen, Rowan, Rylie, and Cole; brother to Bruce (Darlene) and Janet, deceased (Clarence); son of Clifford and Joyce (both deceased); and uncle to several nieces and nephews. He meant a great deal to his family, and we know we were special to him. He will be missed and remembered with love.
Murray was a man with intensity, but with an energy, wit and humour so sharp he could leave one in stitches for hours. He was a patient teacher to those who would do things exactly as he wanted them done. He could fix (almost) anything but, in his zeal to help, could at times create problematic situations where a bigger repair was necessary. He was a silly and fun grandpa, an enthusiastic dancer, competitive in cards and board games, a perfectionist, insistent on precision in the ways of cooking, gardening, home maintenance, and crop seeding techniques and protocols, and a former one-time Naicam Hotel Arm Wrestling Champion (probably a short-lived title, but was often proudly mentioned due to his competition being well above his weight class).
Growing up on the family farm, Murray was an energetic and precocious boy. While his constant tinkering and experiments occasionally led him into troublesome predicaments, his curiosity and work ethic eventually led him to become a life-long entrepreneur and the man he was to the end. Murray married Lana Anderson in 1967 and moved to Saskatoon, SK where they both attended the University of Saskatchewan. They later returned to Naicam, SK to raise their family. During these busy years, Murray built their family home and the office building that still houses their business Thompson Insurance Services. Murray operated several businesses over his lifetime, but it was his return to grain farming that became his true passion. He enjoyed his travels and camping trips, but was always drawn back to the endless skies of his rural prairie home, and was very clear that his farm was his favorite place in the world to be. Murray was a man with integrity and compassion for others, who was involved in and cared for his community.
A private celebration of life will be held at a future date when the trees are green and the crops are growing. The family respectfully requests that, for those so wishing, any remembrances be made by making a donation in memory to either:
