Gilles was born on March 9, 1931, the eldest of12 children of Arthur and Leonie Tremblay. He was born on the family farm where they rose early to do the chores, milk the cows, clean the barns etc. before breakfast.

He married Annette Gaudet on July 29, 1957. Together they had 3 children; Joanne, Doris and Paul.

Gilles lost his first wife on August 13, 1963. He remarried on August 2, 1975 to Monique Rocher. Together they enjoyed fishing, travelling and gardening.

He is survived by his wife Monique, his daughter Joanne (Charles Allen), granddaughters Alison, Melissa and Jamie. His son Paul, great grandchildren Joey, Jessa, Hunter and Hailey.

Gilles was predeceased by his daughter Doris.
