Inglis, Nikolejsin representing Saskatchewan at Masters Curling Nationals

Two Saskatchewan curling teams are currently competing in Grand Prairie, Alta., in hopes of bringing home a national championship.

Team Inglis on the women’s side and Team Nikolejsin on the men’s earned their way to the Canadian Masters by way of a provincial win, which came last month in Tisdale.

Catherine Inglis has won at the junior, ladies, mixed, senior and now masters events at the provincial level.

For the men, the win in Tisdale was the first time the four played together, but their success has made them focused on winning again, this time against the rest of the country.

“The provincial weekend was obviously fabulous, and we were quite happy with the way things went. Excited to be representing Saskatchewan and competing at Nationals, and just want to thank Tisdale again, fabulous facility and good people,” Nikolejsin said prior to the national event that began on Monday and ends on Saturday, April 11.

“We’re looking forward to an event like the Masters because it celebrates those who are still curling past the age of 60, and you get to reacquaint yourself with people you may have played in the past. I get to do it with my sister too, who hadn’t really curled competitively at all in the last 10 years, as well as two girls I went to high school with… Tisdale is always the best at hosting, and now we’re hoping to do the same thing in Grand Prairie,” added Inglis.

So far, Team Inglis is 3-0 at the Canadian Masters, while Team Nikolejsin is 1-2. Both rinks play again tonight at 7:30 p.m.
