The Humboldt and Melfort areas will see some help through the provincial government’s Urban Highway Connector Program (UHCP).

The projects were among several announced Friday by Highways Minister Kim Gartner.

Other upcoming projects are located in Prince Albert, North Battleford, Estevan, and Swift Current.

“Once completed, these projects will improve key transportation links, which benefits local traffic, commuters and keeps the provincial highway network better connected to move our export-based economy and support Saskatchewan’s quality of life,” Gartner said in a news release.

“Under the Ministry of Highways’ Urban Highway Connector Program (UHCP), Humboldt will receive $56,112 in provincial funding, and Melfort will receive $45,065 in provincial funding toward road maintenance on their provincial highway connectors,” the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways said.

UHCP will also fund up to $75,000 toward a cost-shared Humboldt regional transportation study.

The ministry said they are at the very early stages of the study process.

“Ministry officials have met with representatives from the City of Humboldt to discuss the study,” the Ministry of Highways stated. “The ministry looks forward to meeting with other municipalities in the Humboldt area.”

UHCP will invest $3.6 million toward road maintenance and other related activities in 14 communities across the province.

“The ministry’s UHCP helps municipalities improve and maintain urban roads that connect provincial highways,” the government news release stated.
