Melfort re-establishing Community Development Advisory Committee

Apr 28, 2026 | 10:19 AM

A chance to have your say.

The City of Melfort is looking for residents to be part of the Community Development Advisory Committee.

The committee had largely been dormant over the past few years, but the city wants to re-establish the opportunity.

“This committee is focused on providing input and advice to the city on economic and community development initiatives,” Community Development Coordinator Kayla Prefontaine told northeastNOW. “It brings together community perspectives to help guide decisions that support growth, resiliency, and overall quality of life in Melfort.”

Prefontaine said the committee is a renewed effort to bring together community and industry voices in a focused way to support economic and community development priorities.

“It reflects the city’s continued commitment to collaboration and informed decision-making.”

The goal of the committee is to support the development and implementation of strategies that strengthen Melfort’s economy and community. Prefontaine said that includes identifying opportunities, addressing challenges, and helping to shape initiatives that contribute to long-term success.

“We are looking for a diverse range of perspectives, including business owners, industry representatives, community partners, Indigenous partners, and residents with an interest in economic and community development,” said Prefontaine. “Individuals with experience, insight, or a passion for contributing to Melfort’s growth are encouraged to apply.”

The committee will include six community members, along with representatives from city council and the Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce. Prefontaine said that ensures a balanced mix of perspectives and expertise. The city is now in the recruitment phase, and the goal is to establish the committee soon after the application period closes.

Prefontaine said the committee will play an important advisory role in helping shape the future of Melfort, and community input is a key part of the process.

“Participation is a meaningful way for residents and stakeholders to contribute to local decision-making.”

Information on the committee, its role, and how to apply is available on the city’s website
