Wade Gregory Fritshaw, originally from Tisdale, Saskatchewan, and most recently residing in Grande Prairie, Alberta, passed away in Grande Prairie on May 13, 2026, at the age of 54.
Wade left us far too soon, but in his years with us he accomplished so much and made a lasting impact on countless people. He will be remembered for his kindness, strong work ethic, adventurous spirit, and unwavering dedication to family and friends.
Wade was born on December 31, 1971, to Greg and Donna Fritshaw and was the youngest of two children. He grew up on the family farm near Tisdale, where he developed a love for the outdoors, hard work, and adventure. As a child, he enjoyed riding his go-kart, spending time at the creek, playing with his beloved dog Dana, operating farm equipment, participating in water sports, and playing hockey. His parents loved him deeply, were immensely proud of the man he became, and will miss him beyond measure.
Wade shared a special bond with his older sister, Candi Fritshaw. Candi thought the world of her little brother, even though he eventually became bigger than she was. She was always proud to take him anywhere, support him in all he pursued, and look out for him whenever she could. Their close relationship remained strong throughout their lives.
Growing up in Tisdale, Wade attended school, worked on the family farm, and excelled in hockey. During his bantam years, he played for the Tisdale Nitros and celebrated a Provincial Championship victory. He later played AAA hockey with the Yorkton Mallers and Tisdale Trojans, and continued his passion for the game through senior hockey in Strasbourg and Tisdale.
Wade’s strong work ethic appeared early in life. At just 14 years old, he worked in a men’s clothing store in Tisdale. After graduating from high school, he spent many years working in various roles with the Credit Union system. While helping on the family farm remained a constant throughout his life, Wade continually sought opportunities to grow professionally. He became a financial planner, dedicating himself to the education and training required for the role, and later earned a computer technician certificate.
Never one to shy away from new challenges, Wade eventually entered the trucking industry. He began as a dispatcher before purchasing his own flat-deck truck. His career then took him into the oil and gas sector, where his leadership abilities quickly became evident. Through hard work and determination, he advanced to become both a conventional and directional driller.
Wade’s commitment to lifelong learning continued as he returned to school once again to earn his Power Engineering certification. Over the last decade, he worked in Dawson Creek and Grande Prairie as a Power Engineer and consultant, building a respected career through dedication, professionalism, and expertise.
At the age of 27, Wade became a father for the first time with the birth of his son, Tsar Wade Fritshaw-Hester. Being a father was one of the greatest joys of his life. Alongside his former wife, Amber Hester, Wade built a strong co-parenting relationship and spent the next 28 years instilling values, life skills, and a sense of adventure in his son. Tsar treasures memories of travelling with his dad, snowboarding, golfing, and spending time together watching The Simpsons. Wade’s sense of humour, curiosity, and adventurous spirit live on in his son. More than anything, Wade worked to teach Tsar the qualities he valued most: integrity, respect, and kindness. The loss of his father leaves a space in Tsar’s life that words cannot adequately express.
Wade was also a devoted uncle to Candi’s daughters, Taylor Lenard and Jade Hanson. He adored his nieces and was often like a second father to them. One of their most cherished memories is a family trip to Hawaii, where Wade took Taylor, Jade, and Tsar on an unforgettable adventure filled with sightseeing, surfing, and laughter.
On March 26, 2012, Wade married Lynnette Withrow. Together they welcomed their son, Tasen Wade Fritshaw. Lynnette describes Wade as loyal, loving, driven, and fiercely dedicated to those he cared about. Throughout their years together, Wade maintained his passion for sports and an active lifestyle. He especially loved supporting Tasen in his activities, whether it was basketball, scootering, or, most recently, snowboarding.
Nothing mattered more to Wade than being a good husband and father. He was a fun, dedicated parent who wanted nothing but the very best for his children and took great pride in watching them grow. Beyond his career and family, Wade embraced life wholeheartedly. He valued family, hard work, the outdoors, and physical activity. He took tremendous pride in everything he owned and cared for it meticulously. He loved travelling, watching movies, playing crib, and following sports. Those who knew him will remember his thoughtful nature, gentle spirit, respect for others, infectious smile, and true gentlemanly character.
Wade was predeceased by his grandfather Vince Fritshaw, grandmother Fran Wallington, grandfather Alvin Wallington and cousin Garrett Keays.
He leaves behind a family who loved him dearly and will miss him profoundly: his parents, Greg and Donna Fritshaw; his son, Tsar Fritshaw-Hester; his wife, Lynnette Fritshaw; and their son, Tasen Fritshaw. He is also survived by his sister, Candi Fritshaw; his nieces, Taylor Lenard (Chase Woulfe) and Jade Hanson (Brady Hanson); his great-nephew, Stetson Woulfe; his great-niece, Joleigh Hanson; and his beloved grandmother, Jenny Fritshaw, at 98 years of age.
As we say goodbye to Wade, our hearts ache with his loss. He worked hard for everything he achieved and lived a life marked by determination, generosity, and love. His life was full, his accomplishments many, and his impact immeasurable. He will be remembered with deep affection and missed more than words can express.
The family will honour Wade privately in the near future at the family farm. They sincerely thank everyone who has reached out with their thoughts, prayers, and support during this difficult time.
