Switzerland, Colombia clash today in Vancouver’s World Cup finale
VANCOUVER — There will be two World Cup components coming to an end today in Vancouver.
When Switzerland and Colombia square off this afternoon in a round of 16 game at BC Place Stadium, it will mark the seventh and final World Cup match at the multi-purpose stadium in Vancouver’s False Creek.
It will also spell the end of either Switzerland or Colombia’s bid for world soccer supremacy.
Switzerland, listed at No. 15 in FIFA’s current rankings, topped Group B with two wins and a draw, beating Canada 2-1 on June 24 in Vancouver in the process. Switzerland then beat Algeria 2-0 on July 2 in the round of 32, also in Vancouver.
