Pigs lost in barn fire north of Star City

A pig barn north of Star City was lost over the weekend, along with it an unknown number of pigs. 

Melfort Fire Chief Leonard Whitney said the department was called out to the farm Friday afternoon. 

“When we arrived on scene, the north barn was fully engulfed,” Whitney told northeastNOW. “Then we took measures to cut the north barn off from the south barn.” 

Once the south barn was protected, crews spent their time knocking down the fire in the north barn. The department was at the scene for about five hours in all.
