New GM, President leading MMHA into hockey season

Aug 20, 2026 | 3:13 PM

Melfort Minor Hockey (MMHA) has some new faces in leadership positions as the hockey season approaches.

Janine Keller is the new General Manager, replacing long-time GM Donna Dressler, who announced her resignation this spring after a three-decade run in the position.

The new president in 2026-27 is Jeff Keller, who succeeds Wade Bednarz.

He told northeastNOW he’s excited to take on the position.

“It feels great,” Jeff said. “I’m just excited to be the president and guide minor sports along the way.

He said the MMHA board has been great, and everyone involved is in it for the kids. Keller added that the board is also all about improving the experience for everyone.

“We’re going to try to bring a few new programs in,” Keller explained. “We’re introducing a goalie program for pre-skate, to help the young goalies get on their feet a little bit quicker.”

The decision to bring in a goaltending program for the young skaters was made with the help of suggestions from some parents, according to Keller.

“We’re trying to add as much pre-skate and extra-curricular skates as we can.”

Hockey programs start hitting the ice next month, with things ramping up in October. Keller said it would be great to see the public continue to support youth hockey in Melfort.

“It’s great to have a crowd out to watch these kids play and they like playing in front of a crowd, so the more people we get to come watch, it’s good for the community, it’s good for the rink, and it’s good for morale,” explained Keller. “The more people that come out to watch, the better.”
