‘My knees were weak’: Hudson Bay man wins nearly $1.5 million playing VLT

A huge VLT win for a man from Hudson Bay.

Don Moore won the province-wide jackpot on the Vault Breaker wide-area progressive, taking home $1,484,688.33.

He won the jackpot at Desrochers Hotel Sept. 17 and said he was stunned when he won.

“My knees were weak,” said Moore. “It took a while to come to terms with how much I’d won.”

Moore said after getting used to the idea of winning such a large amount, he formulated a few plans for the winnings.

He said he plans to buy a different vehicle, but “most of it will be locked into savings.”

“My plan for next summer is to follow the World Professional Chuckwagon Association,” Moore added.

Vault Breaker is a progressive that links 4,200 VLTs in 270 communities across Saskatchewan.

According to the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC), there are three mystery jackpot tiers; the province-wide grand jackpot with a minimum value of $500,000 and pays out before it hits $1.5 million, the regional major jackpot with a minimum $5,000 prize and maximum $25,000, and the local site jackpot with a $100 minimum and a payout before hitting $500. Any of the three tiers can be awarded when playing Vault Breaker.

The Vault Breaker’s province-wide grand jackpot has since been reset to $500,000.
