Multi-Use facility progressing in Birch Hills

Work continues in Birch Hills on the towns new multi-use facility.

“It’s pretty well framed up on the inside,” Coun. Barry Evans told northeastNOW. “Most of the electrical is done, and we’re just in the process of getting insulators to come out and do our insulating that we need done, and start putting on the drywall.”

As for financing the project, Evans said they are in need of about $200,000 more to have it fully funded. The amount is 50 per cent of the total needed.

“We’re just in the process of planning a fundraiser in conjunction with our Garage Sale Days for the first weekend in June,” he said. “So we plan on having a barbecue, selling food at dinner time, and then we’re just in the process of arranging for a band and have a street dance at night.”

Evans added that there isn’t really a solid timeline for the project, and that it will move along quickly as they get funding.

He said it’s a big project for the town as it will house the seniors’ centre.

“It’s important to look after our seniors,” Evans said. “The present hall that they are in is at the end of its life and this one will make it wheelchair accessible, and it’s just a new facility to treat our seniors right.”

The multi-use facility will also house the new library, and a room for the Lions Club which is also fundraising for the project.
