Second phase of Tisdale Kinettes skatepark completed

The Tisdale Kinettes have completed another step for their skatepark in the town.

The project’s second phase is complete after the last year’s first phase which built a circut that featured some ramps and bars.

“Phase Two has been the completion of that circut now,” Mandy Russel, who is head of the skatepark committee, said. “So the kids can go and do basically a full circut around the whole track.”

The third phase, a pump track, will come either this fall or next spring.

“It is basically an oval shaped track little track that has some humps in it and some bowls. It’s great for beginners to learn on, or even some more experienced skaters to learn some pretty cool tricks on,” Russel said.

The project has been in the works for about five years. It was started by Raelene Franklin who passed away last summer of cancer. Russel said Franklin poured her heart into the project to try and make it a reality. That is why the project is so important to the Tisdale Kinettes.

“We are completing this park basically in honour of her and to keep her legacy running with the Kinettes in our community,” Russel said. “Just to show kids how great it is to be a volunteer in your community and always being there to help everybody out.”

Janke and Jellicoe, a local business in Tisdale donated a bench in honour of Franklin.

Russel said there is still some fundraising that needs to be done to finish the project as the next phase is expected to cost $55,000.
