Top 10 finish for LeRoy’s Timmerman at Junior Provincials

The small town of LeRoy, Sask. had a top 10 finisher at the Saskatchewan Junior Golf Provincials that took place in Nipawin from July 9 to 11.

Fifteen-year-old Carter Timmerman represented his hometown well by finishing in a tie for ninth place among 40-plus junior golfers at the Evergreen Golf Course.

Timmerman fired an 85 in Tuesday’s opening round, but he said things could’ve looked a bit better had it not been for one hole.

“I hit the ball pretty good the last two days,” he said. “The first day, it just came down to the 18th hole.”

Timmerman’s round was looking to be very solid before that 18th hole, but an unfortunate 10-shot hole had Timmerman tumble down the leaderboard. But he bounced back in the final two days. He shot back-to-back 75’s to jump back up the leaderboard into the tie for ninth that he finished in.

“Little bit more pressure out there,” he said when talking about the what the final day was like. “Make all my shots and get out of the rain.”

Timmerman has played in numerous Junior Provincials in his years of golfing (he said he’s been playing all his life). He said his performance at the Evergreen was “pretty good” in comparison to his other events.

“Competition was good, course is in beautiful shape,” Timmerman told northeastNOW. “And everybody played pretty good.”

Timmerman added he just wants to keep improving and play like he did in the last two rounds at the Junior Provincials.
