Third annual Touch-a-Truck to take over Melfort mall parking lot

Construction and farm equipment, emergency vehicles and more will be on hand this Thursday in the Melfort mall parking lot.

The Melfort Business Revitalization Corporation will host Touch-a-Truck for the third year in a row.

Organizer Chris Corbett said it’s an event for kids and adults alike.

“Lots of people see all of this big equipment but they never get a chance to look at it or climb on it,” Corbett said. “Children love it but the adults are grinning just as much as they are.”

The event is not necessarily a fundraiser; it is an opportunity to bring more people into Melfort.

“It’s for Melfort and area residents to come and check out and maybe while they are here they will check out some of the businesses and see what else Melfort has to offer,” Corbett said.

The first Touch-a-Truck event was held on the street in front of the Northern Lights Palace but was moved last year to the mall parking lot.

The idea for the event came from out of Manitoba where Corbett lived prior to Melfort.

“It’s a North American thing. If you Google it, you will find them all over the place,” Corbett said.

Twenty-five to 30 vehicles will be on hand thanks to area businesses that bring out their equipment and staff during the event.

Touch-a-Truck will run from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday.
