Melfort Multi-K registrations see an increase, volunteers still needed

Aug 14, 2019 | 5:00 PM

The ninth annual Melfort Multi-K is just over a month away and each category is nearly sold out.

Organizer Allison Rogers said the kids’ run and 10 km are both sold out, there are only five spots left in the 21 km and about nine spots are left in the 5 km. This year is seeing a record amount of people signed up for the 21 km.

Rogers said now they are in need of volunteers before and at the event.

“You can package stuff, there’s package pick-up the night before, there is the food tent, you can be on the course, or you can hand out medals on the finish line which is a super fun spot to be,” Rogers said.

The event will typically see about 100 volunteers come out over the course of three days to make the event happen.

The Multi-K event began with one simple goal in mind — to get people out and active.

“There’s some people who take it very seriously, they train for it which is great but really at the end of the day we just want you to get out, be with your family and friends, get active and enjoy being outside,” Rogers said.

The organizing committee has seen participants come out from as far as Nova Scotia with the farthest this year being from Calgary and Manitoba.

There will be road closures in place during the event which will be announced closer to the September 21 event.
