Carrot River set to host thousands for Outback KCRA Rodeo weekend

Aug 16, 2019 | 11:33 AM

The Outback Kakeyow Cowboys Rodeo Association (KCRA) rodeo in Carrot River is back for the second year and will be bigger and better this time around.

The Flavours of the Outback gets the weekend kicked off and will be followed by a cruise night and concert at town square tonight. Local food vendors will be on hand to sample and showcase their finest foods.

Recreation Director Miranda Blaber said the rodeo then begins tomorrow and runs through Sunday.

“It’s at the Carrot River Valley sports grounds and they have signage out there, it’s east of Carrot River and everyone should be able to find it quite easily,” Blaber said.

The KCRA Outback rodeo was named the 2018 KCRA rodeo of the year by contestants and members of the KCRA.

The committee expects thousands of people to be in attendance for the rodeo throughout the weekend along with the many other events happening, according to Blaber.

“We expect a lot of visitors including rodeo competitors and spectators. We also host artists that are not necessarily from Carrot River,” Blaber said.

The Carrot River Valley studio tours are open today and tomorrow as well.

“It’s an artisan tour and it includes Carrot River and other communities,” Blaber said. “In our community we have Birch Road Gallery.”

The gallery will host other artists that are skilled in wood turning, journal making and horn carving.

“It’s just a great weekend to be in Carrot River. There is so much going and everyone is so excited to host some visitors,” she said.
