Big Brother Big Sisters recruitment campaign begins tonight at Mustangs game

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) in Melfort is looking to appeal to potential mentors at Friday’s Mustangs game.

Two waiting littles will drop the puck at the quarter final game against the Kindersley Klippers at the Northern Lights Palace.

Kathy Carswell with BBBS told northeastNOW that it is important to make the agencies presence known at the game.

“We are taking the opportunity to search for mentors and ask the community for their help,” Carswell said. “They may not be able to help us out with mentoring but odds are someone will know someone that is willing to spend a few hours a month with a kid.”

Mentors are required to be 18 years of age or older.

Carswell said they have a steady waiting list here in Melfort.

“The two that we have dropping the puck have been on the waiting list for quite sometime; we are looking at the year mark,” Carswell said.

Mentoring is something that is quite easy but very rewarding according to Carswell.

“It’s going for a walk, playing frisbee in the park, its’ walking the dog, going for an ice cream cone, and going to the library,” Carswell said. “It’s things you do already but with a kid tagging along.”

The recruitment campaign will continue throughout the next few months around the community.
