Guedo added anything that could be combustible should be moved away from buildings. Along with getting rid of any debris, Guedo advised pruning nearby trees and closing areas underneath decks to prevent debris or fire embers entering under the building.

“There’s a lot of things that you can do in the fall, which will really help protect your cabin in the fall, but also keep it well protected throughout the springtime,” he said.

Overall Guedo said the community of cabin and cottage owners in the park are good about doing their end of year work. He added while the majority of people are doing a good job there is always room for improvement.

“A lot of Fire Smart is just keeping your place neat and tidy,” he said.
