Safe Communities set to hold car seat clinic on Friday morning

Those with car seats in the Humboldt area will have an opportunity to double check everything is clipped in tight with an upcoming clinic.

Safe Communities Humboldt and Area is holding one of its car seat clinics tomorrow morning between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. on Eighth Avenue between 16th and 17th Street in Humboldt.

The clinic will allow anyone to come voluntarily to have car seats reviewed and properly installed. Safe Communitites Executive Director Shari Hinz said local RCMP will also assist with the clinic along with staff from the Good Neighbor Store.

“Any vehicles with child restraints in their car or truck will be pulled over, and asked to participate in the clinic,” Hinz told northeastNOW. “Just to make sure that their seats are properly installed and if there are children in the seats, that they are buckled in safely.”

She added that some vehicles are more difficult than others to get seats installed, which is why it’s a good idea to have a technician look things over.

Hinz is reminding those attending the clinic to continue following protocols after the fact. Without the properly installed restraint, drivers can be issued tickets.

“At the end of the day, when they really stop and think about it,” Hinz said. “How precious is that cargo you are carrying. I think everybody would rather make sure that their child is safely buckled in and seats properly installed.”

Hinz added that the clinic isn’t just for those with kids currently in car seats, they welcome those with children on the way. She said the technicians can help simply installing the seat as well.
