Nipawin Chamber hosts grand opening for new building

Members of the Nipawin and District Chamber of Commerce are getting comfortable in their new digs.

The chamber held the grand opening of the new office at 214 Railway Ave. E. after the August move-in.

Executive Director Lisa Suchlandt told northeastNOW the grand opening had a solid turnout, with about 25 people on hand to do some networking and enjoy some cake and coffee.

Suchlandt said the new location helps give the chamber a stronger identity.

“It gives the chamber the opportunity to re-establish itself in the community and stand out away from tourism,” Suchlandt explained. “Now that we’ve given up the visitors’ services, it gives us a chance to have a fresh face in the community and start over, and decide which direction to go and we’re hoping our members will help us with our new direction.”

Suchlandt said chamber members and others can come by the office and she will answer any questions about the organization.

Meanwhile, the chamber’s previous location near Central Park was sold and handed over to the Town of Nipawin in August.

At that time, Chamber President Marlon Zacharias told northeastNOW the chamber members decided after their May annual general meeting that selling the building to the Town of Nipawin was the best option.

Zacharias said the town had declared the chamber’s building and activities were not in line with the Central Park land zoning requirements.
