Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Today, Canadians are living longer and fuller lives thanks to research that has resulted in a nearly 20% increase in the breast cancer survival rate since the 1980s.

Today, almost 90% of women will survive at least 5 years or more after abreast cancer diagnosis

Almost $414 million has been invested in ground-breaking breast cancer research by the Canadian Cancer Society and former Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation combined over the last 25 years, including $24.3 million invested into metastatic breast cancer research in the last 5 years.

Thanks to these investments in research, we know more than ever about breast cancer prevention, as well as how we can better diagnose, treat and live with, and beyond, breast cancer.

A recent study, called ComPARe, found about28% of breast cancer cases in females can be prevented. A tremendous amount of progress has been made against breast cancer yet the impact remains undeniable.

1 in 8 Canadian women is expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.

An estimated 26,900 women and 230 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019.

More than 80% of breast cancers occur in women who are 50 and over.

Breast cancer is still the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death for women.

Help create awareness and raise funds through your participation; with proceeds coming back to breast cancer research and support services at the Canadian Cancer Society.

Get creative and brainstorm some fun ideas that will engage your community

Have a ‘wear pink’or ‘dress casual’ day a bake sale, a pink tea party, collect donations with a pink coin box, or organize a challenge.
