The Rotary Club of Melfort is showing appreciation to emergency services personnel in the area this weekend.

The Emergency Services Appreciation Dinner is being held at the Kerry Vickar Centre Saturday, Oct. 26.

The event is presented by the Rotary Club of Melfort, and public relations spokesperson Gailmarie Anderson said the club feels it is important to appreciate and honour all of the people who work in emergency services.

Complimentary tickets have been provided to all those in uniform and some volunteers, thanks to the generosity of the sponsorship of some local businesses.

Anderson said it will be a full house at the KVC on Saturday, with cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m.

The keynote speakers are Ron and Clare Noseworthy of Shelterbox Canada, and Anderson said Rotary is setting up a shelterbox at the event.

“A shelterbox is our emergency services response and we go to countries where disasters have happened, and shelterbox goes in and provides shelter and food and clothing to people that no longer have any,” said Anderson.

Several representatives from local emergency services will also be on hand at the appreciation dinner.

“For example, Fire Chief Jason Everitt, Melfort Ambulance Care’s Wayne Therres, from the RCMP Corporal Kyle Wyonzek, and from STARS we have Rod Gantefoer and Cary Serviss, and they’ll also be speaking to what they do,” said Anderson.

She said the Rotary Club of Melfort has benefitted from the generosity of the residents of Melfort and area, and they are very grateful for the emergency services employees and volunteers.

All proceeds from the event will go to Shelterbox.
