NESD’s director of education preparing for retirement
Each year in October, the North East School Division’s (NESD) director of education shares their professional goals with the Board of Education.
When Don Rempel, NESD’s director of education, presented his goals for the 2019-20 academic year, it was one item aimed for 2020-21 that drew interest: “To provide for the on-board and orientation of a new Board of Education and to assist in the transition to a new Director of Education.”
Rempel said he’ll retire at the end of the 2020-21 academic year.
“I’m on a term contract that ends in June 2021, so the board started planning for a recruitment process and they’ll be making decisions around recruitment of a new director over the next little while,” Rempel said. “I’ll be working with the newly elected board from November (2020) until the end of June (2021), so I’m mindful that I should be prepared for next year to do some governance work and support the transition to a new CEO.
