Saskatchewan New Democrats set to gather in P.A.

New Democrats from all over Saskatchewan are set to be in Prince Albert for the next few days.

The Saskatchewan NDP’s annual convention will be getting underway Friday before wrapping up on Sunday. Plaza 88 downtown is the host venue. At the convention party ,members will be talking about a wide range of business including the coming election.

Leader Ryan Meili is scheduled to speak to delegates Saturday morning.

John Tzupa, the NDP’s provincial secretary said spirits are high heading into the event.

“It’s less than a year until the next election. We’re really excited to get together, you know, hear from some great speakers, have some great informative workshops for our members,” he said.

This year the party expects to see over 300 people take part, with many bringing significant others and families. Tzupa explained being not so far from a provincial election adds a different element to the convention.

Tzupa said another exciting part of the event is bringing so many people together and giving them the chance to share information and helping get everyone prepared for when the campaign does kickoff.

Tzupa said they were motivated to put the event on in P.A. as they feel there is real potential for the party to grow their support and win more seats in the future. The provincial secretary said the party believes they can gain support on issues like the elimination of STC, education and emergency wait room times.

“Prince Albert is a place that we’ve definitely been hard at work,” he said.
