Lily Irene Galloway (nee Nett) was born in Melfort on March 21, 1925 to parents Joseph and Lottie (nee Little) Nett. She was the oldest girl having two older brothers, Earl and Lewis and two younger sisters, Kathie and Vivian. She attended Burke school in Melfort completing Grade 10. She went to work after that and spent some time working at the Searle Grain elevator in Melfort until she married the love of her life, Archie Galloway, on October 15, 1943.
Born to them were four children with one son dying in infancy. They raised three children, Bette Dawn, Merla Jean and William David. Those years were spent sharing farm activities with Alma and Isabel Galloway and family. Many Christmases and New Years were spent with them and the McGowans and many activities with their church friends. Included also in festive gatherings were pastor’s families, the local veterinarian family Dr. Ken and Eldi Just and family, Penners and Irene’s sisters, Kathie Sabo and Vivian Loftus and the Mundays, Kauns and many other friends.
Mom had one aunt on her father’s side who lived in the USA. Her first cousins (six nuns) visited and enjoyed special times together.
Irene joined the Church of the Nazarene early in her years and served in many capacities there over the years. In later years she attended Park Avenue Bible Church.
Irene was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Earl and Lewis, one sister, Kathie, husband, Archie and an infant son and son-in-law, Lawrence Hanson.
She is survived by her children David (Donna Lee) Galloway and three boys, Ryan, David Regan and Steven; Merla (Wayne) McIntyre and children Kyla, Tim and Raena; Bette Hanson and children Lori (Cheryle), Cindy (Terry) Mason and Christina (Lloyd) Daniel and eleven great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
We are blessed to have had Irene as a part of our lives and she will go on living in our hearts.
