Fern Loreen Munro, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away with family at her side on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the Nipawin Hospital.
Fern was born August 2, 1930 to Oscar and Annie Westman at Nipawin, SK. She was the second youngest of six siblings. She spent all of her 88 years in the White Fox/Nipawin area.
Fern grew up on the family farm outside of White Fox. She married the love of her life, Art Munro, on July 26, 1950. While raising their three children, they operated Munroʼs Meats and Locker Plant until October of 1973. After selling the business, they moved to a new life on the farm. Her door was always open for company to stop in for coffee or a great meal. With the help of family and friends, Fern was able to remain on the farm for three years after Artʼs passing in 2012.
Fern had a life full of happiness with her family, friends and community. She was an active member in the United Church and was always involved in community activities and events. She loved music and sang in both the church choir and later the Singing Pines in Nipawin. Art and Fern would turn heads when they danced together.
Fern also enjoyed gardening, golfing and curling well into her 80ʼs, and her time as a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved her travels to Arizona for the winters, west to visit family and the special mother and daughtersʼ trips to San Francisco, Hawaii, Victoria and a Caribbean cruise.
Her energy, enthusiasm and friendliness drew people to her. She delighted in the company of others, especially family and close friends.
Fern was a beautiful person inside and out. Left to cherish her memory are Grant and Joey, Matthew, Daniel & Kelsey, Scott; Marilyn and Ray, Quinn; Joan and Murray, Keri & Ange, Nixon, Jesse, Parker; Michelle; Dot Van Steinburg; cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and all who knew her.
