Mike Madraga was born in Ens, SK on May 6, 1935 to Alex and Katie Madraga. His brothers and sisters were Mary (Shewchuk), George, Walter, Stella (Hanson), and Stan.
Farm life near Birch Hills, SK made sure that Mike grew up to be a hardworking, conscientious, and thoughtful person. Some of his mottos were to do unto others as you would have them do unto you, don’t quit until the job is done, make sure you earn double what your wage is every day, always be kind and honest and do the best you can.
When Mike applied for a job he would often say to his prospective boss “Pay me what you think I am worth”. Quite a bold statement but with his work ethic he always got a good wage.
Mike held many jobs but when he was able to get his first car, vehicles became his passion. That is until he met Marie Evelyn Zwozdesky in Melfort. His life really began from then on. They were married August 15, 1959 and December 31, 1960 Michael Kim was born. Another dream came true when he became a founding partner of Melody Motors in June of 1961 selling International and Rambler. Ken came along on April 26, 1962 and the next big change was to start selling Mercury and Ford vehicles in 1964. Kevin was born on July 17, 1970 and his family was complete. Now his dream was that his boys marry Melfort girls and raise their families here.
After decades of continued growth, expansion, the 1982 fire, unprecedented sales and service awards and trips from Ford, Mike chose to retire and spend more time with the true love of his life Evelyn and his grandchildren when he wasn’t golfing. Many of you saw true companionship while they walked the shopping aisles.
Mike leaves to mourn his wife Evelyn, sons Kim (Laurie), Ken, Kevin (Linda), grandchildren Landon, Lane, Michaela, Rachel, Kadin, Rylan, Daylin, Kelli, and Amy, his special Melody Motors family both past and present, as well as many family, friends, neighbors and acquaintances that have been drawn by his kindness and compassion for all.
Mike was predeceased by his parents Alex and Katie, brothers George, Walter, Stan, sisters Mary and Stella, as well as his in-laws Peter and Anne Zwozdesky, brothers-in-law Bill, Metro, and Ernie, sister-in-law Irene McCoshen, and many other relatives, friends and acquaintances.
We thank you Dad for setting such an incredible example for all of us to follow. We Love You!
