George Belchamber was born on November 29, 1951 at the Nipawin Union Hospital and passed away at home on October 21, 2018. He was the first born of Ronald and Elizabeth Belchamber and was raised on a farm near Pontrilas Saskatchewan. Growing up George enjoyed many sports including baseball, curling and riding his bicycle everywhere. A quote from George’s mom “I thought I had the best little boy possible. I sure learned different as the years went by, but he is getting better,” George received his education in Pontrilas and Nipawin Saskatchewan. In 1974 he furthered his education by going to Kelsey Institute for Heavy Duty Mechanics. He graduated in 1975 with the highest mark in the class. George then went to work in Prince Albert Saskatchewan at Woodland Enterprises, where he received his Interprovincial Journeymen Seal working there till the fall of 1981. He then moved to Buffalo Narrows, Saskatchewan where he taught Heavy Duty Mechanics for Kelsey Institute for one year. In the fall of 1982 George moved back to Nipawin and began working at the Hydro Dam. In the following years till 1991 he worked at various construction projects throughout Saskatchewan and Manitoba. In the spring of 1991 George went to work for Ian Rushmer, farming till August 7,1995 when he was in a motor vehicle accident leaving him a quadriplegic. Following this bump in the road he became a full time volunteer for his local community and also for the province. George became vice president of the Nipawin Exhibition Association in the summer of 1996. In late winter of 1996 he became the president of the Exhibition. He held this position till early spring of 2013, except for two years. He was a lifetime member. George also was president of Western Canada Fairs Association in 2008. In March of 2014 he became a lifetime member of SAASE (Saskatchewan Association of Agriculture Societies and Exhibitions). George became a director of the Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association in 1987 where he held the position of co-chair for a number of years. He was an active member assisting where he could. George and a few other people founded the Codette and District Trailblazers in the spring of 1979 (now known as Twin Lakes Trailblazers). He was their first president and still was an active and lifetime member. George was nominated and voted in for Nipawin Town Council. He took this adventure to heart for sixyears where he was on many different committees and boards bringing enthusiasm, knowledge and maybe just a little bull headedness. After his accident George still had his zest for life and his sense of humor. When he relearned to snowmobile and ATV “you did not stop anywhere behind him”, as you would be able to see his smile for miles as he got ready to spray you with water, dirt, mud or whatever was under his tires or track. When George took someone for a ride whether it be snowmobiling or ATVing you had to be very CAREFUL as he would find a way to scare the daylights out of you. George thoroughly enjoyed his volunteering, meeting new people and making lasting friendships throughout his life. Special memories were not only dear to him but also to everyone involved along the way. George’s interests were serving his community to the best of his ability, snowmobiling province wide, hunting sometimes even without landowners permission, fishing wherever he could haul his pontoon boat to, camping at site 270 and always enjoying his life to the fullest. Farming had always been close to his heart and it was not out of the ordinary to see his white van and Rex his trusty sidekick cruising the fields and lending a hand whenever possible. George lost Rex in 2017. His new sidekicks were Mak and Princess. George was known for his jokes and storytelling at functions as well as the entertainment he provided around the campfires.
In April of 1979 he met Wendy and fell in love. Together they grasped life with all the good and bad challenges they were handed.
Left to cherish George’s memory are his wife Wendy; stepdaughter Casey (Cory); grandchildren Mason and Sage; his mother Elizabeth; siblings: half brother Dale, sister Wendy (Brian), brother Jim (Blanche); brothers and sisters in law: Carol McCloy, Terry (Darlene) Dmyterko, Bonnie (Larry) Kalk, Judy Dmyterko; nephews and nieces: Richard (Megan) Belchamber, Amanda (Michael) Gore-Hickman, Cory (Margaret) Wallis, Erin (Jason) Lengyel, very special nephew Mike (Shelly) Wallis, Tracey (Lorne) Yurkowski, Tera (Don) Beach, Kim Dmyterko (Tiejan), Abby Winker, Kristen Dmyterko, T.J.
