Evelyn Caroline Fedusiak (nee Slowski) passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord August 14, 2018 at the age of 84 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was fortunate to live independently at her home until just prior to her passing at the Jubilee Nursing Home where she was lovingly cared for by the wonderful staff. Evelyn was born January 16, 1934 to William and Mary Slowski (nee Bokla); the oldest of two children. Evelyn and her younger brother Steven had a very close and loving relationship that lasted her whole life. They grew up at the family farm just outside of Sheho where she attended school. Along with her family, Evelyn was an active member of her community.
August 1, 1954 Evelyn married the love of her life Walter. Together they raised their family on a farm in the Insinger district until 2012 when they moved to Foam Lake. Evelyn and Walter were blessed with four children: Freddie (d. 1955), Cheryl, Gregory, and Susan. Evelyn worked along side Walter on the farm. She especially enjoyed tending and nurturing her big garden. They were a team and rarely spent time apart throughout their 64 years of marriage. The family was fortunate to have both Evelyn and Walter as strong role models.
Evelyn found joy in feeding her family. She could often be found preparing massive meals and culinary masterpieces. Her staples in the kitchen were nachinka, beatniks, holubsti, and French toast with raspberries, sugar and cream. She was always excited to try a new recipe that interested her. Her door was always open to family, friends, neighbors, and strangers whether it was lunch, Sunday dinner, or Christmas. No matter how much work there was to be done, Evelyn always made time for coffee and a visit.
Evelyn and Walter were active within their community in various organizations and sports groups including St. John Suchawa Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the Ladies Aid, and the Insinger Cardinals Fastball team.
Evelyn loved staying connected with her extended family and friends. Her world was broadened when she received an iPad for her 80th birthday and discovered Cheryl’s Facebook.
Evelyn’s children, granddaughters, and great grandsons were the light of her life. She always had time to listen, talk, and enjoy their company. Evelyn took every opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren and enjoyed making memories to cherish with each of them.
Evelyn was predeceased by: her son Freddie, her parents William and Mary, and in-laws Matt and Effie. Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband Walter, daughter Cheryl – Laurissa (Vicki) Joshua, Walter, and Thomas; son Gregory (Kathy) – Emma and Erin; daughter Susan (Garry) – Sarah (Tom) and Cassie; her brother Steven; her sister-in-law Iris Bourns; as well as nephews, nieces, godchildren, family, and friends.
