Marguerite Riel Centre hosting fundraising dance

Nov 21, 2019 | 12:00 PM

The Marguerite Riel Centre has an evening of dancing and fun in store for families in the area on Friday night.

Dancing through the Decades will feature live music from Forty Ounce Philosophy, from 7- 10 p.m. at the Kerry Vickar Centre.

Director of Operations Joanne Yakowec said the dance aims to raise funds for other programs they run.

“It would be directed at our youth programming, like free gym night and the youth activities over the summer,” Yakowec said. “We take them on different excursions and learning different skills.”

Yakowec added there are a few of their programs that don’t receive any outside funding, making events like these essential.

The centre hosted a family dance last spring which was a huge success, so they are hoping for another big crowd this time around.

Costumes are encouraged from the ’50s to the ’90s. There will be prizes throughout the night for best costumes and best dancers for both children and adults.

Anyone that purchases their tickets in advance will have their names entered into the draw for the T.V. or can also purchase raffle tickets for it at the event as well.

This event along with all of their other programming are open to absolutely everyone according to Yakowec.

“We are always expanding and looking for new ways to work with the community,” Yakowec said.

A family of four is $25, 13 and over are $10 each, 12 and under are $5, children under eight are free.

Call the centre at 306-753-4950 for more details.

The Marguerite Riel Centre is also known for their Community kitchen free lunches on Wednesdays, soup kitchen on Thursdays, as well as adult dance lessons and many other programs on the regular basis. The centre also hosts different events and programs with each holiday and season.
