Mary Hill

We are honoring the life of Mary (Pyrma) Hill who was born in the Yellow Creek district on May 4, 1933. She spent her childhood days on the farm at Yellow Creek. From there she went to Birch Hills, starting work at the local restaurant. This is when Uncle Jim came into the picture, he an eye for the cute young waitress. Mary and Jim got married in March of 1954. They spent some time in Alberta and finally settled in the Tiger Hill district.
From this union they were blessed with one son, Alvin (no more kids cause they did it right the first time Ha Ha). Mary got a job at the hospital in Birch Hills as a nurses aide, where she spent 33 years of service. After her retirement, she and Jim continued to spend many more years on the farm. Mary worked hard growing big fantastic gardens, along with canning and freezing. As kids we always looked forward and enjoyed going to visit Uncle Jim and Aunt Mary, she always fed us good and spoiled us a little (ha ha). I still remember the little two room house they lived in, we always thought it was fun to be there. Aunt Mary was a fantastic cook; you could stop by anytime and she could whip up a meal in no time along with plenty of baking. She was a very generous person, always making sure she paid her share and helping others in need. Mary was a member of the Tiger Hill Community Club for many years until it dissolved.
When she became a Gramma, Landon became the apple of her eye, that was her pride and joy, he was well provided for and she was proud of all his accomplishments as he grew to be a fine young man. Alvin’s love for baking continues to this day; he can thank his Mom for that. Walking into Alvin’s home is like walking into a bakery; there is always something baking with the wonderful smells.
Mary was predeceased by her dad, Onofrey, in 1958, her mother, Udocha, in 1978, her husband Jim in 2012. She was also predeceased by her siblings: Annie, Alice, Harry, Nick, Steve, Joe, John and Pete and daughter-in-law Julie in 2017.
Mary is survived by her son Alvin; grandson Landon; step grand daughter Jennifer (Tyler) and their children: Topher and Keir; sister Rosie Hill and several nieces and nephews.
