St. Front Curling Club set to open new facility
The hamlet of St. Front, Sask. will have its population balloon on the evening of Saturday, Jan. 4 when the curling club hosts its facility’s grand opening.
Back in the winter of 2017, the club was forced to tear down the structure that stood to cover their two curling sheets. In 2018, construction started on a new facility for the rink. The lobby, bar, and kitchen are all still the same and haven’t changed, but the new ice area is much more energy-efficient, and brighter according to acting Club President Scott Sunderland.
“It was all kind of the goal of, making it easier for all of our volunteers to put in the ice,” he said. “Our club is ran strictly by volunteers, so anything that we could do to make it a lot easier and convenient was kind of the goal of the whole rebuild.”
The total cost of the new facility was about $150,000. Half of it was fundraised, while the other half came from a capital loan, but Sunderland said they will continue to fundraise for it as well, something they will unveil on Saturday at the club.
