Old Nipawin Bridge

Repairs on Old Nipawin Bridge begin Monday

Jan 4, 2020 | 2:00 PM

The Old Nipawin Bridge will soon be getting some TLC.

Steve Shaheen of the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure told northeastNOW work will be taking place on the bridge this week, leading to its closure for a few days.

“Ministry bridge crews are planning on doing some repairs on the Old Nipawin Bridge,” said Shaheen.

Maintenance crews will also be on hand to do some spot repairs to the bridge, which was built in 1928.

“Once the repairs are complete, it will help make that road less bumpy, and stop the expansion joints from making any loud noises when driven over,” said Shaheen.

The bridge on Old Highway 35 has required repairs for some time, but Shaheen said they didn’t want to start work until the work was completed on the newer bridge on Highway 55.

Crews are expected to arrive on Monday Jan. 6 and the work may be complete by the end of the day on Thursday, Jan. 9.
