The Melfort Fire Department has received its new event tent.

The tent serves as a visual reminder of the fire department’s history in the area, and as shelter.

“We had a couple of events in the past years that the weather turned a little south on us, and we had looked into this tent,” Captain Leonard Whitney told northeastNOW. “Shelter was the main purpose of it, but then we started looking into what we could do.”

Whitney said the tent is multi-functional, serving as both shelter and a conversation piece.

The manufacturer of the tent was able to take some pictures from some of the incidents the department responded to in the past and incorporated them into the back wall of the structure.

“We felt it was important to give people a good idea of what the Melfort Fire Department does and the variety of calls that we attend,” Whitney said.

He said members love to interact with the public. Whitney said he looks forward to the next event at which they can bring the tent.
