Rolling a strike: Bowl for Kids Sake raises $18,000

Feb 11, 2020 | 5:00 PM

The largest fundraiser of the year for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Humboldt (BBBS) is in the books.

The annual Bowl for Kids Sake fundraiser was held at Kemway Lanes in Humboldt from Feb. 3 to 9. The theme for this year’s fundraiser was ‘Sports-a-palooza’.

Development Co-ordinator for BBBS Humboldt Jodie Hergott told northeastNOW the event went very well.

“We had lots of participants and there [were] lots of team jerseys going on, and we heard lots of laughter and lots of high fives going on,” Hergott said.

She said the preliminary numbers show Bowl for Kids Sake raised around $18,000 this year.

“The money goes [toward] our programming, so it allows us to continue recruiting mentors for our matches,” Hergott said.

There is currently a waitlist of 21 kids looking for mentors in Humboldt and the area, but Hergott said the fundraiser also helped raise awareness as to the importance of mentorship.

“This fundraiser actually led to some conversations with some people who are interested in becoming mentors,” Hergott said. “Not only did we raise money for our programming, we were also able to touch base with some people in the community who are interested in becoming mentors and helping us [to] reduce our waitlist.”

Hergott thanked the entire community for their support, including the sponsors, and donors for the silent auction.

This year marked the 40th anniversary of Bowl for Kids Sake in Humboldt.
