Men’s Support Group starting in Tisdale

Mar 5, 2020 | 11:21 AM

A Men’s Support Group has started in Tisdale, and their first meeting is tonight.

Ron Browning, one of the organizers of the support group, said the idea spurred from an increase in mental health issues and suicides in the community over the past few months.

“Kind of got my wife and I thinking at first,” Browning told northeastNOW. We “really realized there was a need for something to be done in the community. So we had posted one little thing on Facebook and then another young guy from the Tisdale area contacted me right away and he was on board with getting something together too.”

Browning said men don’t really have a casual space like this to speak with other men about mental health.

“Recognizing the need and seeing that men really need a place to connect with others, and let out some of their emotions,” he said.

Browning added he and the other organizer don’t have any mental health training, but just want to bring men together.

The group will meet on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Sweet Cup in Tisdale and Browning said it will be somewhat of a come and go event, but there will be some organized group conversations.

“We really hope that a few men are able to come out together and just meet and share some of the things that are going on in their life and be a support to each other,” he said.

The group will meet every Thursday.
