Saskatchewan’s federal courts shut down during COVID-19 pandemic

Mar 20, 2020 | 12:41 PM

Starting Friday at 12:01 a.m. all regular operations at Court of Queen’s Bench locations in Saskatchewan will be suspended.

“The decision to proceed in this manner was done cautiously as information developed regarding the health situation,” a media release stated Thursday.

Only urgent and emergency matters will be heard by the court via phone or video conference, the release said.

Unless otherwise specified witnesses, lawyers and jurors are asked not to attend court in person between Friday and May 31, 2020.

Only urgent and emergency civil matters will be heard by the court in chambers, the release explained.

Those situations include matters with serious consequences to people or damage to property.

“The primary concern is to continue to protect the health and safety of those who use the court, together with those involved with the justice system,” it stated.
