Kinistin Salteaux Nation implements COVID-19 measures

Mar 27, 2020 | 1:01 PM

Members of the Kinistin Salteaux Nation are taking many precautionary measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

There are three monitoring checks at the points of entry into the community.

In a letter to community members, Chief Greg Scott said a curfew is also in place as of Wednesday, March 25. The curfew is implemented from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily.

The band office and wellness centre are reducing hours to 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on-call on the weekend.

Kinistin leadership began working on the pandemic response on March 13 when three committees were formed to help on and off reserve members.

One committee focuses on community safety by monitoring the virus and rolling out the measures in the pandemic plan including mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.

The second committee assists by getting together items for care packages while the third committee put together the care packages and disperses them to each household.

The care cleaning packages include Lysol wipes and spray, Pinesol, toilet bowl cleaner, sponges, dishcloths, hand sanitizer and hand soap.

A $200 gift card will be provided to urban members for pandemic assistance.

The letter also echoed the same statements of the health authority to call 811 for any symptoms of the virus. Anyone immunocompromised and elderly should self-isolate and refrain from having visitors.

“We do not know how long these measures will have to be in place and if we work together, we can all get through this,” Scott said in the community message.
