Community volunteer hoping for spot on Humboldt city council

For the second municipal election in a row, the name Amanda Klitch will appear on the Humboldt city council ballot.

Ten years of volunteering with the JCI’s, the Onstage Dance Festival committee, and Partner’s Family Services are all experiences Klitch will bring to the table.

“Those have really helped me to gain knowledge on the community and being part of meetings,” Klitch said. “Decisions that you have to make when you are part of organizations, I think this is just the next step.

The non-profit JCI group was always in charge of the cabaret during the Summer Sizzler event as well as the demolition derby. The group also sells Christmas Trees during the holiday season.

“You are just able to network when you are so involved, get to know the community and businesses and gives you a good well-rounded idea of what the community would like,” Klitch said.

The hairdresser of 15 years says she’s a good listener and wants to apply the skill as a member of council as well. Klitch works at Elite Salon and Spa and was born and raised in Humboldt.

In 2016, Klitch fell just short of making it onto council but she doesn’t think that is necessarily a bad thing and is excited to be in the running again.

“I really want to see this community grow, I want to see new businesses and I want to see the momentum of infrastructure that has been happening, continue,” Klitch said.

Saskatchewan municipal elections take place Monday, Nov. 9.

“I hope people will consider me for the day of voting and consider my name on that ballot,” she said.
