Spruce Haven, Rotary Park in Melfort vandalized

A pair of Melfort parks were victims of vandalism over the weekend.

One incident was at Spruce Haven Park where the east outer wall of the new washroom building was spray painted. Meanwhile at Rotary Park, the Co-op Community Memorial Bench was broken right off of its cement pad that it is bolted to.

City of Melfort facility manager Leonard Whitney said it’s disappointing to see this happen at their parks.

“Our parks are there for everyone to enjoy,” he said. “And it’s never a good thing when any of our facilities are damaged.”

It’s not the first time this spring that some damage has been done at some Melfort facilities. Just a few weeks ago, some motorbikes were seen driving on the soccer pitches at Spruce Haven Park.

“We just want to try and keep our facilities as nice as they can be,” Whitney said. “And stuff like this creates more work for us.”

The City of Melfort is asking residents in the future to report vandalism such as this to the city by calling 306-752-5911 or emailing Whitney at facilitymanager@melfort.ca.
