Star City man sentenced to 480 days in custody in relation to February traffic stop

A 22-year-old man from the RM of Star City has learned his sentence in relation to a traffic stop in February.

William Milewicz-Murfitt will spend 480 days in jail after he pled guilty to his long list of charges. Milewicz-Murfitt was in Melfort Provincial Court on April 12 to learn his fate.

The charges stem from a February 6 incident where Melfort Combined Traffic Services pulled over a vehicle in the city for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, the vehicle took off, causing minor injuries to an officer. Police pursued the vehicle but before it went into a ditch after travelling a short distance. Several firearms were located and Milewicz-Murfitt was taken into custody.

The charges included assault on a police officer causing bodily harm, assault on a police officer with a weapon, fail to remain at the scene of an accident, careless use of a firearm, flight from police, impaired operation of a motor vehicle, impaired operation over 80 mg of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, possession of a firearm knowing that the possession is unauthorized, and possession of a firearm in a vehicle.
