Fully accessible shower facility installed at Kipabiskau Regional Park, ready for campers

A busy camping season lies ahead in Saskatchewan and northeastNOW is putting the spotlight on area regional parks ahead of the May long weekend.

Kipabiskau Regional Park south of Tisdale has been steadily getting camp site reservations since January.

Park Administrator Kevin Moulds said new this year is a state of the art shower and washroom facility.

“We saved money for quite a few years and had some generous donations and grants,” Moulds said. “It is fully wheelchair accessible, has push button opening doors that you see in a lot of the cities and is just a wonderful facility.”

The new shower and washroom building was unable to open last year due to public health restrictions that were in place.

The Montgomery Foundation made a donation and a grant came from the federal government accessibility program.

“Our other shower house was getting very long in the tooth and this new one is just very nicely done,” Moulds said.

The entire project from start to finish can be viewed in pictures on the Kipabiskau Park website.

A large playground structure was installed just a few years ago as well. The Kip park playground area was also sprayed for ticks to protect users from the bugs. The park will be sprayed again in July.

The main beach area is very spacious with very nice sand in the swimming area, Moulds said.

There is a nine-hole golf course and mini-golf, paint ball as well as camping to be found. The campground features water and power as well as a tenting area.

“We are still waiting for some governmental guidance, but we are prepared to open full swing and do the best that we possibly can,” Moulds said.

The store at Kipabiskau opened on May 15 and will operate five days a week from noon to 8 p.m. The gate house opened last week.

“A lot of boats launched, and a lot of docks went in and a lot park patrons have been out enjoying the park already,” Moulds said.
