Toronto FC game at New England delayed by bad weather in the area

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Toronto FC’s game at New England Revolution was delayed nearly 90 minutes by bad weather on Wednesday.

Kickoff at Gillette Stadium was scheduled for 7 p.m. ET but was pushed back to 8:28 p.m. due to lighting strikes in the area.

Toronto (1-8-2) came into the game mired in the 27-team MLS basement, having lost six straight games and gone winless in seven. TFC was 19 points behind Eastern Conference-leading New England at kickoff and ranked last in the league on defence, conceding 2.45 goals a game.

Assistant coach Javier Perez was in charge of Toronto, which fired first-year coach Chris Armas in the wake of Saturday’s 7-1 loss at D.C. United. It represented the heaviest defeat in club history.
